Portraits are by far the hardest photograph to take. Therefore I love taking them, as they are the ultimate challenge, that can make or break a shoot. Make it good and fun, or make it a failure. Cartier-Bresson said that "The most difficult thing for me is a portrait. You have to try and put your camera between the skin of a person and his shirt." In 1997 I started a series of portraits of artists. It seemed that no-one was documenting that which i had grown up with. I started it with my first Leica III, in black and white, so that was to be the format. Then I went to college, and only picked it up again in 2007, maintaining the same format. |
